Oak 84 began in late 2017, but the idea of a candle company actually started a few years ago with our founder, Ronnie Miller. He grew up in a small town in South Carolina. In 2012, he moved to Philadelphia where he worked in the home and gift industry for a number of luxury home boutiques that sold luxury home fragrances like Jo Malone and Diptyque.
The idea of Oak 84 came after designing a small line of candles for the opening of an art gallery in Philadelphia. He picked a scent, the packaging and hand-poured 50 candles. They sold out the first night. Ronnie knew he had something.
He put the idea off to pursue a different career and eventually landed in New York City working for 2 high-end menswear designers, whose clients included Tyson Beckford, Alan Cumming and a number of television personalities. Ronnie began making candles as small gifts for clients and friends for their birthdays, events, etc. Close friends suggested he look into the candle making business. Ronnie again put it off to focus on other things, eventually returning to Philadelphia to pursue a job offer in late 2016.
After several months in Philadelphia, feeling like he wasn’t getting anywhere and after being away from his home state for many years, Ronnie returned to South Carolina to be closer to family and start fresh. In August of 2017, he met his fiancé, John Michael O'Neal. Ronnie constantly brought up the idea of creating a line of hand-poured soy candles and his love for home fragrances. John Michael strongly encouraged his idea and in November of 2017, Oak 84 was born!
The name Oak 84 stems from both an idea Ronnie had thought of a few years back for a home and men's boutique called "Sweet Oak" and the year he was born. When developing the line, Ronnie was very adamant about only using the finest soy wax and premium fragrance oils he could find. His whole idea was to create an affordable candle that anyone could take home, light and enjoy without having to spend a fortune but still enjoy the best experience in luxury home fragrance. We think he did just that...

We bought the White Birch candle and absolutely love it! It smells fresh and woodsy and reminds us of Alaska! I was really impressed with the quality and smooth appearance of the candle: it is obvious that a lot of care was taken when it was made.
